RARE BREED PEDIGREE OXFORD SANDY & BLACK PIGS

THE OXFORD SANDY & BLACK BREED

The Oxford Sandy & Black also known as the 'plum pudding pig' is one of the oldest British native breeds and is recognised by the RBST (Rare Breed Survival Trust). The breed has almost become extinct twice! With strict breeding standards and conservation and people eating pedigree pork the breed is being supported.

The breed is a slower maturing traditional breed that is the most tender and tasty!

The Oxford Sandy & Blacks are docile easy to handle pigs. There are 13 female bloodlines and just 4 male bloodlines that can all be traced back to the original herd book. Here at South Paddocks we have two of the Cynthia line sows pictured with a Jack Boar. We will be looking at adding some new female lines to our herd next year.

SOUTH PADDOCKS HERD

We are members of the Oxford Sandy & Black Pig Group and the BPA (British Pig Association) both our breeding sows are pedigree registered as is any boar we use.

All litters are birth notified with the BPA and then any that meet breeding standards are registered with their full pedigree all traceable. Any that don't meet the breeding standards are then kept on the farm and we rear them on till finishing to produce our South Paddocks Pedigree Pork.

We also sell some piglets on as meat weaners that come with a pedigree pork certificate for other pig keepers to rear for pork.
